SUV Slides Into McDonald's Restaurant

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Aurora said slick driving conditions and speed contributed to an accident that left an SUV crashed into a McDonald's restaurant.

It happened on Mississippi near Uvalda just after 3:30 Thursday afternoon. Police said the GMC Yukon was traveling eastbound on Mississippi when the driver could not stop for traffic.

To avoid an accident, officers said the driver steered to the right and struck a Ford Escape that was exiting the McDonald's parking lot. The Yukon continued across the parking lot and into the McDonald's.

Glass shattered and went flying, some of it hitting a 10-year-old girl. She suffered only a scratch.

The driver of the Yukon hurt his wrist. He was taken to the hospital. Two people in the Escape were taken to the hospital as well with minor injuries.

Police said the driver of the Yukon will be cited for driving too fast for the conditions.

McDonald's released this statement:

"McDonald's is sorry to hear of the unfortunate accident that occured today at our restaurant located at 12900 E. Mississippi in Aurora. It is our understanding that there were several people taken to the hospital for treatment and our thoughts go out to them and their families. We are currently cooperating fully with the investigation."
