There are a lot of great ways to enjoy a one-person show. From standup to musicals, comedy and drama, there are more varieties of one-person shows than you can imagine. Plus, when they are done right, it can be just as entertaining as a larger production, if not more so. You get to know the actor or performer so much better in an intimate solo-show setting and you get to take that journey with him or her in a way that you just can’t get with a larger cast. Take a look at these upcoming solo shows in Denver.

“Defending the Caveman” is the longest-running solo play in all of Broadway history. It’s playing at the Denver Center’s Garner Galleria Theatre right now. This hilarious play tackles the sensitive subject of just how men and women relate and it is truly written for both sexes. It premiered in 1991 in San Francisco but soon moved to Dallas then Philadelphia finally landing on Broadway where it ran for 702 performances. The hit one-man show is touring the country. It’s a perfect date night show sure to spark lots of conversation.

If you ever turn on Comedy Central, Disney or VH1, chances are you have seen Hal Sparks. An actor and comedian, Hal Sparks has currently been seen on the Disney XD show “Lab Rats” and has also appeared on such hit shows as “Queer As Folk” and the hugely popular “I Love the 80s” series. He’s also been seen on several films including “Spiderman 2” and “Extract” and he has made the rounds of all the hit talk shows. As a member of the famous Second City comedy troupe, his own brand of comedy is incredibly quick, smart and truly worth an evening out with your special someone.

Tyler also finds time to host her podcast “Girl on Guy with Aisha Tyler,” honored as the “Best New Comedy Podcast” in 2011.

“The SantaLand Diaries” is David Sedaris’ irreverent answer to the traditionally sweet and sugar-coated holiday fare. It’s
based on a series of essays that describe the true story of David Sedaris’ experience as a Christmas elf at Macy’s department store. This hysterical production is presented by the Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company and has been a hit year after year, making “The SantaLand Diaries” the perfect solution to anyone who is tired of seeing yet another version of “A Christmas Carol.”
