Top Green Chile In Denver

Green chile is a staple in Hispanic culture and heritage. It's served with anything and everything, and Mexican restaurants are often judged by how good their green chile is. Luckily for us, Colorado is a state rooted in Hispanic culture, so we have a plethora of authentic Mexican restaurants that offer some of the best green chile north of the border. Unfortunately, our state is full of pretenders, so here's a guide to five restaurants with the best green chile in Denver.
Santiago's Mexican Restaurant
95 S Sheridan Blvd.
Lakewood, CO 80226

Ask any Denver native where to get the best green chile and most will say Santiago's. Santiago's is hailed as one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city, and for good reason. Their cooks know what they are doing, and their green chile is out of this world. They have three different levels of heat: mild, hot and half and half, that each live up to their name. If you're still not sold on Santiago's just yet, just show up on any Saturday or Sunday morning and see the hordes of people waiting to get their hands on their divine, green-chile filled creations. If waiting in line isn't your thing, their green chile is so good that it's even packaged and distributed at local King Soopers, Wal Marts, and Safeways, so no matter which way you do it, just be sure you try Santiago's chile.

Señor Burritos
12 E 1st Ave.
Denver, CO 80203

Small and simple, yet full of flavor, Senor Burritos has been going strong in Denver for more than 10 years. They serve a little bit of everything, but as their name suggests, their burritos are what they're known for. Not only that, their green chile is out of this world. It's authentic, and full of pork and verde flavor. And, they have two locations, so there's sure to be one fairly close to you.

La Loma
2527 W 26th Ave.
Denver, CO 80211
(303) 433-8300

La Loma is another Denver institution that's been going strong for years. They serve an upscale, Tex-Mex style menu and have been since the early 1980s. But like every place on this list, it's their green chile that stands out. It's actually green in color, and perfectly emulates the authentic New-Mexican style. It goes great on anything they serve, or by itself in a bowl with tortillas. La Loma is a Denver favorite, so if you haven't been, be sure to come see what you've been missing.

North County
94 Rampart Way
Denver, CO 80230
(720) 532-0106

North County is a little different than some of the other places on this list in that they serve a Baja style menu. That doesn't mean their green chile is lackluster, though. Meaty and full of flavor, it takes any dish it's served with over the top. Along with outstanding green chile, North County also has more than 100 different brands of tequila, craft beers on tap, specialty sodas and excellent fish tacos. The coastal influence is strong at North County, however, it's one of the best overall Mexican restaurants in town.

La Fuente
3023 W 44th Ave.
Denver, CO 80211
(303) 477-5501

Last, but certainly not least, is La Fuente. Winner of Denver Westword's "Best Breakfast Burrito" in 2011, they have the accolades to back it up. A traditional Mexican restaurant with a large menu, La Fuente is another Denver favorite, and for good reason. Their breakfast burritos are obviously exceptional, and the green chile is what you'd expect from a hole-in-the wall establishment: downright delectable. Come see why La Fuente is a Denver favorite.
