All you need is the right store to help point you in the right direction. That is where these great independent booksellers come in. With small and knowledgeable staffs, these bookstores are there to help you find just the right books to keep your kids excited about reading. The Bookies is the only independent children's specialty bookstore in the area and the staff here certainly knows kids books. For more than 40 years, this lovingly appointed store has carried books and educational material for kids and teachers with lots of great science kits, board games and more. There is even a small but very carefully selected adult section so you can have something to check out while your children browse. If you are a teacher, then you probably already know about The Bookies, as it is one of the primary resources for teachers from all over the metro area from preschool through high school levels. Stop by for story time or look for different author events and fall in love with The Bookies.

Drop in every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. for story time and let your child get whisked away to another land with a half-hour story. $2 Buck Books is another great independent used bookstore location that caters to a wide variety of books for adults and for children. This is one of the best places to stop if you are looking to stock up on some new books for your hungry readers. If you are getting tired of them going through a book or two a week, then here is your chance to get lots of great titles for very affordable prices. All paperback books are just $2 and all hardcover books are just $4. When your kids have read all of their books, bring them in for store credit towards some new titles as well. What a wonderful way to recycle those old books, while getting some great new titles for your children.

For more than 34 years, Capitol Hill Books has been a staple of the local bookseller scene in Denver. This lovely used bookstore features a huge variety of books on every subject, with lots of great nooks and crannies to get lost and enjoy a good read. The children's selection is great, with some very affordable prices so you can stock up on that summer reading list for much less than you would at a larger retailer. If you have some older books in good condition, you can also see if Capitol Hill Books would take them for trade, which allows you even more money to put towards building up that summer reading list. Since 1973, this bookstore has brought a wide variety of books to people of all ages in Boulder.
