Free Fall Activities For Families In Denver

Entertaining the family can become costly quickly, depending on which activities you enjoy. However, between the great outdoors and its beautiful scenery and free admissions at student shows, there are many activities available that won't break the bank. The Denver area has a wide variety of cultural and educational activities that are fun for the whole family, and they are free. If you're racking your brain thinking of something to do, check out one of these free activities.
Denver Arts Week: Night At The Museums

On Nov. 7 from 5-10 p.m., many of the city's best museums are offering free admission, so you and the family can see what's new. Participants include the Denver Art Museum, the Clyfford Still Museum, the Black American West Museum, the Denver Botanic Gardens and many more. The event marks the first weekend of Denver Arts Week, and it's a great opportunity to take the family on a tour of some of Denver's best museums without spending any money. There will even be a free shuttle to cart people around to each museum.

On Friday, Nov. 13 and Thursday, Nov. 19, the Denver Zoo is hosting its last free days of 2015. If it's been a while since you've been to the zoo, there are plenty of attractions. From the Toyota Elephant Passage to the Explore the Shores play area, there is something for the whole family. Zoo admissions run until 5 p.m., and grounds close at 6, so there is time to take the kids for an after school treat. On these days, everyone is admitted to the zoo absolutely free, so it's a great way to explore the zoo without spending any money.

On Friday, Nov.13th and Saturday, Nov. 14th, the Denver Botanic Gardens is not only hosting its last free admission days of 2015, it is also hosting its Winter Gift Market. Denver's best local artisans will be showcasing and selling handmade gifts, so you can get a jump start on holiday shopping. During these two days, admission to the Botanic Gardens York Street location is free for Colorado residents. The Botanic gardens offers beautiful gardens that showcase plants and other sculptural elements.

On Saturday mornings, beginning at 9 a.m., Chatfield State Park hosts "Free Saturday Hikes at Chatfield." The last two for 2015 will be on Nov. 7 and Dec. 5. These are guided hikes in which participants learn about the natural features of Colorado. The five-mile hike combines nature walking, exercise and education, which is a great family experience. Learn a little more about your own backyard with a Colorado Parks and Wildlife professional. Hikes are free, but there is an $8 entry fee per vehicle.

An ensemble of 70 musicians, The Symphonic Band of CU-Boulder puts on great performances. On Wednesday, Nov. 11, the band will be putting on a free concert at the Macky Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The show will feature six musical numbers of varying genres highlighting different instruments. The University of Colorado Boulder offers a wide selection of free musical concerts of different styles, making for a rich cultural experience for the whole family.
