Washington Redskins

Denver Broncos

After a slow start by RGIII, he appears to be rounding into form as the season nears its midpoint. In the Redskins’ Week Seven victory over the Bears, RGIII threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns and appeared to be in control most of the game. He also ran for 84 yards and the Bears had no answers for him. The Denver defense will not have an easy time against him. Quarterback The Broncos tasted defeat for the first time this season in the Week Seven Sunday night game at Indianapolis, and that’s likely to motivate Peyton Manning as he returns back to Denver for this game. While it was not his best game, Manning has thrown for 2,565 yards and he has a shocking 25-3 TD-to-interception ratio.
The Redskins can run the ball all over the field. In addition to RGIII’s exploits, Alfred Morris is a tank who loves to take on linebackers and defensive backs. Roy Helu Jr. had a three-TD game against the Bears and seems to excel when he gets near the goalline. Tight end Jordan Reed has become a major find for RGIII after catching nine passes for 134 yards and a touchdown. Pierre Garcon is quite dependable. Offense The Broncos will attack the vulnerable Redskins in a number of ways. Look for Manning to go downfield to Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas. He will also establish a tremendous rapport with Wes Welker, who makes more challenging catches than any receiver in the league. Knowshon Moreno is an average back, but he’s a star in the Denver offense.
The Redskins' defense may have the most difficult assignment of any team this season. Not only do they have to stop the Broncos on their home turf, they have to know that Manning & Co. will be angry after losing to Indianapolis. The Redskins are ill-equipped to handle the assignment because they rank 24th in yards allowed and are quite slow. Outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan has a team-high 5.0 sacks. Defense The Broncos rank 29th in yards allowed. Much of that is because they have built substantial leads and opponents have been passing the ball continuously in an attempt to catch up. However, the Broncos have several weak areas on defense. One of them is not linebacker Danny Trevathan, who hustles on every play and has a team-high 49 tackles to go with 10 passes defensed and three interceptions.
Special teams will be a massive mismatch in favor of the Broncos. The Redskins have huge issues covering punts as they have already given up two returns for touchdowns. The kicking game has been inconsistent. Punter Sav Rocca gets decent height on his punts, but he lacks distance. Special Teams The Broncos have gotten spectacular play from Trindon Holliday, who has returned both a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown. The Broncos’ coverage teams have not allowed a return of longer than 32 yards this season. Matt Prater is perfect in his 11 FG attempts, including 3-of-3 from 50 yards or longer.

4 out of 4

The Redskins are playing much more competitively on offense, but they don’t appear to have a prayer of stopping the Denver offense. The Redskins will be fortunate if they can stay close into the second quarter, but the last 30 minutes should be a runaway.
