A storm system bringing moderate to heavy rain to much of Colorado’s Front Range is raising the risk of flash flooding.
Heavy rain has caused some minor flooding in and around Colorado Springs but there were no immediate reports of major problems over the two large burn areas there.
Heavy rains Monday afternoon in the Waldo Canyon burn area with lots of erosion brought mud down in Fountain Creek. It left mud behind on Highway 24 and throughout Manitou Springs.
With record insurance and property tax revenue numbers making headlines, it’s only a matter of time when all of us will begin paying our share of the damage from this year’s wildfires.
At least 10,000 people remain evacuated from the Waldo Canyon Fire burning in Colorado Springs. Some 7,000 evacuees will be allowed home at 8 p.m. Sunday.
A wildfire that broke out Saturday near Waldo Canyon has forced evacuations. The fire was reported shortly before noon and is said to be at 600 acres and growing.
