The rafter who died on the Cache la Poudre River Thursday afternoon died of drowning and complications of heart disease. He was identified as Frank Diskin, 69, from Parsons, Kansas.
Monday was the hottest day of the year in the state, prompting flood advisories and warnings for parts of northern and western Colorado, officials said.
State water managers say flooding in Denver from the state’s record snowmelt is unlikely.
An emergency meeting was called Wednesday evening for LaPorte residents and those who live along the Cache la Poudre River in Larimer County. They were told to prepare for possible evacuations due to flooding.
Experts predict there will be two waves of flooding in Colorado, with the first one this weekend. This year’s record snowpack it more than three times normal levels in the South Platte River Basin.
Homeowners are working now to prevent problems later along the Poudre and Big Thompson rivers.
