More than a thousand people gathered in a small Colorado mountain town Saturday to remember five members of the same family who were killed by a massive rock slide on a popular hiking trail.

Trail Closed At Least Until Spring After Fatal Rock Slide

A popular Colorado trail where a rock slide killed five members of the same family will remain closed at least until spring, the U.S. Forest Service said Wednesday, and one local official believes the closure should be permanent.

Friends preparing to bury five relatives who died in a Colorado rock slide are remembering the father credited for saving his daughter’s life as a selfless volunteer who probably didn’t flinch to jump in front of cascading boulders to protect his daughter.

Deputy: Father Likely Saved Girl In Deadly Rock Slide

A 13-year-old girl said her father shielded her as boulders crashed down on them on a Colorado hiking trail – an action that authorities say probably saved her life even as her father and four other family members were killed.
