Tom Helmer is the newest CBS4 Sports Anchor, but a familiar face and a welcome sight to many viewers.

He comes to CBS4 from Root Sports where he co-hosted television broadcasts of Colorado Rockies games and covered the University of Denver, University of Colorado and Colorado High School Activities Association. Tom is recognized as one of the best local sports anchors with an Associated Press award and two regional Emmys for host of the Rockies Postgame Report and host of a franchise segment called “Tom on the Town.”

“I’m excited to be part of the CBS4 team and thrilled that there is an opportunity here in Denver,” He said. “Colorado is our home now and I couldn’t be happier to continue to broadcast in such a great state.”

Tom is a Michigan native who has called Denver home since 2006. He got his start in broadcasting at KCAL-TV in Los Angeles as an intern and within a year was producing sports. After two years in L.A., he took a sportscasting job in Casper, Wyoming. Over the next 11 years he moved on to jobs in Michigan and California before becoming the host of the FSN Baseball Report for Fox Sports in Denver. Over a six year stretch he hosted two nationally televised BCS Football shows in addition to covering the Colorado Rockies and doing play-by-play for the University of Colorado, University of Denver, MLB and NCAA Football.

Tom joined CBS4 in 2013 and is married with four children.
