Scream Scram Offers 5K Challenge, Halloween Fun

DENVER (CBS4) - Scream Scram is the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver's Halloween-themed 5K run/walk.

There is everything including walking the orange carpet to show off your best Halloween costume, the 5K run/walk through Washington Park and then a trick-or-treat opportunity at the end of the race.

It all starts with a variety of costume contests for kids of all ages and even our furry friends.

"We're all familiar with walking the red carpet out in Hollywood, We've changed it up a little bit to be Halloween-themed, and it's come walk the orange carpet where we've got a number of costume contests, and great give-away prizes," said Erin Porteous, Chief Executive Officer of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

After the costume contests, there is the Spooky Sneak, which is a 100-yard dash for the younger runners. Then the 5K kicks off and winds through the park.

"After you finish the race, you're greeted right at Trick-or-Treat Street, which features a long line of vendors, who have games, activities. We've got food sponsors, beverage sponsors. You will go home with plenty of candy and a full tummy after the race," Porteous said.

There are registration fees for the event, with all the proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

"One of our pillars of success for children is that they are living healthy lifestyles, and funding from this race goes to help participate in our programs that we offer Boys & Girls Club kids each day," Porteous explained.

There are registration discounts if you register in advance. There will also be on-site registration starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 20th. There is also a discount for families of four that you may want to take advantage of.
