Officials with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said the two victims were hospitalized, but their injuries were described as minor.

The female student, a freshman, tentatively faces charges of first-degree assault. She was taken to Mountain View Youth Detention Center.

Authorities told CBS4 the attack took place at the school on Monday and that the victims were Aaron Flowers, 16, and a 15-year-old female.

Flowers told CBS4 the incident began as a fight between two girls in a hallway. He said the suspect took a hammer out of her backpack and started to swing it at the older girl. Flowers said he stepped into help because the 15-year-old is his friend. He ended up getting hit in the ribs and the hand before he was able to stop the fight.

“We were walking to the bathroom; I had to watch my hands, and this girl came up with a hammer and started swinging and I heard her screaming … I turned around and she got hit in the head and I had stepped in front of her and I got hit in my hand and I took the hammer from her. That’s when the cops came up.

“She was just swinging back and forth. It wasn’t just a regular swing; it was just back and forth, and she was going for the face.”

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said there was a school resource officer at the school who able to get there within a minute to arrest the suspect.

The suspect is expected to remain at the detention center overnight. She faces felony assault charges. She’s expected in court Tuesday morning.

The Jefferson County School District released a statement saying they will conduct their own investigation.

Police say Jesus Obeth Armenta rear-ended another vehicle Saturday at 2nd Avenue and Federal and sped off. The other driver lost control and smashed into another vehicle.

Police found the hit-and-run vehicle Sunday morning and then arrested Armenta. He’s being held for investigation of vehicular assault and felony hit-and-run.

One robbery took place at a Walgreens in Loveland. The other two were in Greeley.

Police in Loveland and Greeley released surveillance pictures from the heists. In each case the bandit told the pharmacist he had a gun and demanded prescription pills.

Police think at least two suspects are behind the robberies.

One camera captured the back of a jacket with very distinctive letters on the back.

Two people pretending to be volunteers with the MaxFund shelter walked in Wednesday afternoon, took a puppy on a walk, and never came back.

There are suspicions that one of the people had been to the shelter before and knew what he was looking for.

Surveillance cameras show a man and a woman going into a puppy’s cage, putting a leash on, and walking out. The puppy is named Nick and he’s a Shar-Pei. He’s tan in color with a darker muzzle, and he is neutered.

The man and woman pretended they were volunteers who had forgotten their badges. They were given spares but they didn’t follow the usual procedures, which include signing in, signing the dog out, and leaving both their IDs and their car keys with the front desk while out walking the dog.

Staff members say they didn’t look familiar, but they trusted them.

“It’s like losing our family member and we are desperate to find him … this is a breed that can often be aggressive if it’s not in the right hands and so we really just want to make sure that the dog is safe; no penalty to the person,” said Chelsea Manschot, MaxFund Volunteer Coordinator. “It’s just a matter of getting our family member back to MaxFund.”

Nick is about 20 to 25 pounds and has a microchip. That means if he’s scanned the MaxFund’s information will appear on the computer screen.

Colorado Springs police say 43-year-old Howard York was arrested at his home in Manitou Springs on Friday on suspicion of aggravated robbery.

No one was reported hurt in the Jan. 30 robbery. Authorities say cash was taken but they did not say how much.

Police say they received a tip from a resident about York’s whereabouts after local media carried a surveillance photo of the suspect.

Authorities said Thursday federal, state and local agents were pursuing 17 more suspects. So far, they say officers have seized 26 kilograms of cocaine, a kilo of crack cocaine, a pound of methamphetamine and more than $400,000 in cash.

More than 500 law enforcement agents arrested 80 people during the drug sweep.

Mesa County resident Barbara Mae West posted bond on Thursday after being arrested on tentative charges of vehicular eluding, burglary and trespass.

A police report indicated that West borrowed an SUV from an acquaintance with an explanation that she needed to use it to get to church. According to documents, West was at the wheel of that SUV when it sped off from the scene of a burglary on 28 1/2 Road on Jan. 23. Police drove after the vehicle and caught up with it when it got stuck at the dead end area of a street.

Two men who were believed to be responsible for the burglary allegedly ran away from the car but West stayed at the wheel and “just sat there and looked forward, not acknowledging (a police officer) was talking to her,” the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported.

Police said the men stole expensive electrical piping, and that it was found in the vehicle.

West was taken to jail after the crime and released from jail, then arrested this week again on a warrant.

Starting early Thursday morning SWAT teams from various local and federal police agencies invaded dozens of neighborhood homes across the Denver metro area, including in Aurora, Denver and in many more locations across Adams County.

“This is a big operation and it is a big deal for Colorado,” said U.S. Attorney John Walsh.

In the bust 97 people were charged and 80 people were arrested in what was one of the largest drug roundups in state history. Police said 17 people remain at large.

“In addition to the 97 indicted, another 25 were previously arrested for their roles in violent bank takeover robberies from December 2009 to January 2011,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge James Yacone.

Federal agents said those bank robberies lead to gang and task force teams discovering the connections– five sets of investigations– that led to the bust.

Sources close to the investigation say multiple branches of cocaine operators were taken down.

Arrest warrants were filed both through the state and the US Attorney’s office. Sources also say the raids and arrests have resulted in at least 12 children being taken by child protective services agents.

“When you have cocaine stored there, large amounts of cocaine and guns where people know that’s happened, obviously that’s not place for a kid to be,” said Adams County District Attorney Don Quick.

The operation involves agencies from the DEA, ICE, FBI, Metro Gang and North Metro Drug Task Force.

Seized in the busts were 26,000 grams of cocaine, 1,000 grams of crack, 1 pound of meth, $415,000 in cash, 11 weapons– including an assault rifle and handguns.

Many of those arrested in the operation were set to appear in federal court on Thursday afternoon.

The investigation is centering on Doherty High School in Colorado Springs.

The most recent of the alleged incidents was at a Super Bowl party over the weekend. At least two students were involved.

School officials are now contacting parents to let them know about the ongoing investigation.

So far there have been no arrests.

Sonny Jackson with Denver police said officers responded to a shooting call in the 3400 block of West 9th Avenue around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday.

“When Officers arrived on scene they found two individuals who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds,” Jackson said in a statement. “One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported to the hospital with wounds to his lower body.”

Jackson said investigators believe the resident of the home woke up and found an intruder in his house.

“The resident and the intruder struggled over a gun. Several shoots were fire striking both men. The intruder died at the scene and the resident was transported to the hospital,” Jackson said.

Jackson said it appears the two people knew each other.

Police have not released the identity of either people involved.
