CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4)– The man shot and killed in a deadly shooting near the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in Centennial was a former deputy.
The shooting happened about 9:45 p.m. Sunday at a street entrance to the parking lot.
Before the shooting, a deputy exiting the parking lot observed a vehicle backed into the exit gate area. The deputy contacted the driver and observed that he had a gun. Two other deputies arrived almost immediately.
When the man turned the gun toward one of them, deputies discharged their weapons. No deputies were hurt.
The shooting victim has been identified as Mark Bidon, 50. Bidon was a deputy at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office from 2000 to 2010, when he resigned.
“This is a difficult day for our entire agency,” said Sheriff Dave Walcher in a statement. “Not only are we needing to support our deputies who have been involved in this critical incident, we also want to provide support to those employees who previously worked with the suspect and may be affected by these events.”
The Arapahoe County Coroner told CBS4 that Bodin died from multiple gunshot wounds to the trunk and left arm.
The deputies have been placed on administrative leave as per policy. The shooting will be investigated by the 18th Judicial District Critical Response Team.
