LOS ANGELES (CBS4) – Legendary musician Tom Petty has been taken off life support.
Citing the Los Angeles Police Department, CBS News reported that the 66-year-old Petty had passed away. LAPD later clarified, though, that they have “no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty.”
Petty suffered full cardiac arrest over the weekend and was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home.
He was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, where he was put on life support, which was later removed.
According to TMZ, Petty’s family has a do no resuscitate order for him. They also report a chaplain was called to the singer’s hospital room.
Petty played his last show Monday, performing in three sold-out performances at the Hollywood Bowl.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers debuted their first self-titled album in 1976. The group released 13 albums in total. In addition, Petty put out three solo records.
