Flames Shoot From Roof Of Apartment Complex

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) - The American Red Cross is assisting several residents who lost their homes after a fire broke out at a Castle Rock apartment complex. The fire started around 6 p.m. Monday night at the Pines at Castle Rock Apartments, located on Castlegate Drive between Interstate 25 and Highway 85.

Fire officials say it started on a second-floor balcony and quickly spread to the third floor and attic.

"They were huge. I mean just huge. When you're standing at the apartments across from it you could feel the heat," said resident Beverly Partridge.

Crews from four different fire departments responded to the two alarm fire. South Metro Fire Rescue officials say no one suffered serious injuries but one person was treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters also rescued several pets from the building.

It's unclear what started the fire but investigators will be on scene to attempt to make that determination.
