MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (CBS4) – A family thought someone was trying to break into their home on Easter.

Turns out it was a 9-foot-long alligator instead!

“He was a perfectly happy gator,” one of the residents said. “He would have stayed there for however long.”

Wildlife experts think the gator is 60-years-old, and was trying to make his way back to a nearby breeding pond.

A newly-placed fence made his yearly routine difficult, instead sending him up a 15-foot staircase and onto the family’s porch.
