Drugs May Have Been A Factor In Triple Homicide

By Melissa Garcia

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Authorities are investigating multiple suspicious deaths in Coal Creek Canyon.

Deputies arrived shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 800 block of Divide View Drive in Boulder County to find the bodies of two males and a female.

A worried man had called the sheriff's office around 7:30 a.m. asking for a welfare check on his friends who he had not heard from in several days.

At the property authorities waited on a search warrant in order to go back into the home to piece together what they believed could be a crime scene.

"There's some really suspicious circumstances that caused them to back out, once they confirmed that no one needed help or medical attention, that they were in fact deceased," explained Mike Wagner, a commander with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.

Neighbors were caught off guard by the sudden unexplained deaths.

"Shock," said Donald Heath, who lives just down the road in the normally quiet, remote mountainous area of Coal Creek Canyon.

"We've never had something like that up here," Heath said. "Especially worrisome if it's an outside person. That is of great concern."

Deputies called in a HazMat team to check air quality after seeing signs of drug activity in the house, Wagner said.

Authorities said that it was too soon to determine how the victims died.

"We treat any suspicious death as a homicide investigation until we can prove otherwise that foul play is not involved, Wagner said.

The decedents' identities had not been released.
