Driver Of Vehicle That Went Airborne May Have Been High On Marijuana

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A vehicle went airborne from the interstate Tuesday morning, killing one person on board.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash happened as the vehicle left Interstate 76 and went onto York Street.

York was closed in both directions around 69th Avenue for much of the morning.

A Colorado State Patrol spokesperson says that the driver was speeding and driving "aggressively" before hitting the guardrail on I-76 and going airborne.

"Video that we obtained show the vehicle actually airborne from I-76 down to York," Sgt. Rob Madden with the Colorado State Patrol said. "It shows the vehicle's energy and the force it obtained as it impacted onto York."

Investigators say the driver, who died, 28-year-old Anthony Griego, may have been high on marijuana, but further investigation is expected to last weeks.

"That vehicle was traveling at a very high rate of speed and was driving very aggressively, passing vehicles on the shoulders," Madden said.

Three others were injured, including two children, but their conditions are currently unknown.

No names have been released.
