Weather Conditions Help Firefighters In Larimer County
LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) - Cloud cover is helping firefighters at the Bobcat Powerline Fire.
The fire has burned approximately 50 acres northwest of Loveland and north of the Bobcat Ridge Natural Area. It was first reported at approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Flames could be seen from miles away overnight, but a drop in winds Friday morning meant the fire laid down.
While we may think it's late in the year for wildfires, firefighters say it's not unusual.
"We've had a very dry fall. All the vegetation is cured. The dead and down on the ground is extremely dry, and that's the primary carrier," said Larimer County Sheriff's Office spokesman Tony Simons. "As we're seeing throughout Colorado, our fire season is year-round."
Crews don't know what started the fire, but they say it was not caused by a lightning strike or other natural causes.
