Proposed Sales Tax Would Help Widen Busy Stretch Of I-25

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) - There's a push to widen Interstate 25 between Castle Rock and Colorado Springs, and some lawmakers say they know how to pay for the project.

Lawmakers are proposing a new sales tax. If it makes its way through the Capitol voters would end up deciding whether to approve it next November.

The 62-cent sales tax would apply to all purchases. It would be on top of the 2.9 percent state sales tax.

Lawmakers say the money would go toward all road projects statewide. That also would include expansions to I-25 in Denver and improvements along I-70 through the mountains.
