Boys & Girls Club Members Get Cheer Lesson

DENVER (CBS4) - CBS4's Care 4 Colorado campaign collects new, unwrapped toys to benefit the kids at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. The University of Denver Division of Athletics & Recreation partners with CBS4 to collect toys. The DU cheer squad is holding a special collection on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the North Circle of Ritchie Center Drive.

Recently, some of the cheer squad members held a clinic at the Bronco's Boys & Girls Club. The team showed off some of their stunts, and then taught the club members some cheers.

"They're full of energy, they make us be full of energy. They're fun to be around, and they're so willing to learn," said SJ Heuker, a DU cheer squad member.

The club members went through a series of cheer moves, and then practiced with the college team. The Boys & Girls Clubs are committed to exposing their members to new, learning experiences.

"When I was like 4-years-old I wanted to be a cheerleader," said Desauni, one of the club members taking part in the clinic.

"I want to be a cheerleader because you get to experience who you are, and you get to do a lot of things," said Jada, another club member.

The message behind this clinic is that children can be anything they want to when they get older, and cheering for a college or professional team is not out of reach.

"I hope they learn how to work with each other, work on a team. Be loud, be proud, and just have fun," Heuker added.
