1 Man Found Dead, Another Injured In Home Invasion

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Adams County Sheriff's deputies rushed to a home in a rural area on Thursday on reports of a deadly home invasion.

When they arrived at a home near Tucson Street and Highway 7 in Adams County shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday, investigators found one man dead and another person suffering from a gunshot wound.

"We received a call from an elderly female inside the home and that's all I can tell you," said Adams County Sgt. Jim Morgan.

While investigators tell CBS4 it is very early in the process of determining what happened, they do believe they have a known suspect identified. That person is not in custody but deputies say there is not a threat to the community at this time.

"We have very limited witnesses to this as you can see, it's a pretty desolate place so it's not like we can do a neighborhood canvas and talk to neighbors who might have seen or heard something. We just don't have that in this case," said Morgan.

The injured person was rushed to the hospital and remained in fair condition on Thursday afternoon.

Investigators from the Adams County Crime Scene Unit were at the home for most of the day collecting evidence from the property.

It is still unclear how many people were inside the home at the time of the shooting.
