Owl Causes Stir During CBS4's 'Zoo Lights' Interview

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver Zoo's Zoo Lights celebration is underway and zookeeper Holly Houser and Public Relations Manager Sean Andersen-Vie stopped by CBS4 studios with a special guest to talk about the event.

Houser and Andersen-Vie brought in Vienna, a 21-year-old Eurasian eagle-owl, who caused a bit of a stir during the interview.

"Her prey happen to be small mammals. If she's also a little bit opportunistic she could eat reptiles, amphibians and also bugs in the wild," Houser said.

Houser said Eurasian eagle-owls are mostly nocturnal and Vienna will likely be out during Zoo Lights.

Vienna put a little scare into CBS4's Kelly Werthmann who said at the beginning of the interview she's afraid of owls. The owl attempted to fly way from Houser, who was handling Vienna. Houser was able to keep control of the owl but it made for a tense moment during the interview.

Andersen-Vie said Zoo Lights is the largest lighting event in the Rocky Mountain region during the holidays.

"We have more than 60 acres of lights, animal sculptures and lots of great entertainment," he said.
