Simmons Defends Kubiak's Overtime Decision
Broncos safety Justin Simmons was the guest on CBS4's Xfinity Monday Live this week.
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4) - Justin Simmons and the Broncos lost in overtime to the Chiefs on Sunday and saw their record fall to 7-4 and 1-3 in the AFC West.
"It was tough. Obviously, that's a tough pill to swallow," said Simmons in regards to the loss. "We had plenty of opportunities to win the game, on both sides, in all phases of the game and just came up a little bit short."
One of the most talked about plays in the game was Gary Kubiak's decision to attempt a 62-yard field goal in overtime instead of punt the ball away and potentially settle for a tie.
The Broncos missed the long field goal attempt, giving Kansas City the ball at the Denver 48, and the Chiefs eventually kicked a game winning field goal with no time left.
"That just shows the trust that he has in our defense, and that just shows that we got to get the job done next time," Simmons said in defense of Kubiak.
Simmons, who is in his rookie season with Broncos, has 15 total tackles and a sack this year. His biggest play came in the Broncos win over New Orleans in week 10 when Simmons jumped over the long snapper to block a potential game-winning extra point and preserve a victory for the Broncos.
Denver will travel to Jacksonville this Sunday for an 11 a.m. kickoff on CBS4.
