Report: Josh McDaniels Wants To Succeed Bill Belichick

DENVER (CBS4) - Patriots offensive coordinator and former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels isn't appearing on a list of recommended head coaching candidates.

The reason why is because he apparently doesn't want the position unless it's in New England.

Each season, the NFL's Career Development Advisory Panel complies a list of potential head coach and general manager candidates for what are inevitable vacancies.

Tony Dungy, Bill Polian, John Madden, and Charley Casserly are among the names to sit on the panel, which will finalize the list by Dec. 8.

Among the candidates currently on the list are Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin, Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, and Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia.

But not McDaniels.

A report, according to CBS Boston, says McDaniels' name isn't on the list because he intends to stay with the Patriots until current head coach Bill Belichick retires.

While there's no timeline for Belichick's departure, McDaniels is apparently content to stay put with the Patriots until the 64-year-old coach decides to call it a career.

McDaniels's only prior head coaching experience was with the Denver Broncos, when he went 11-17 over two seasons.

He was fired before the end of the 2010 season.
