Families Sing, Light Candles At 'Love Trumps Hate' Event

DENVER (CBS) - A concerned group of people in Denver came together Sunday night in an effort to help reassure those who feel uncertain about America's future.

They called it the Love Trumps Hate Candlelight Gathering and Sing-In, and it took place at Cheesman Park.

Organizers say the goal was to offer a safe place for "families and individuals can support each other with candlelight, song, hugs and shared tears." It was not set up to protest the presidential election or the results.

"We really need to step back and take some time and take a deep breath and just go forward. I think this gives us a quiet chance to do some introspective looking and thinking and searching," Wendy Busch told CBS4 at the gathering.

Busch and other supporters told CBS4 the event and others like it are an effective way to advance unity.
