A-Basin Gets Final 'Go-Ahead' For Expansion From Forest Service

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - The U.S. Forest Service has given its final approval to an expansion of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area.

The project will add almost 500 acres to the ski area.

A-Basin plans to add new intermediate terrain and overhaul the chairlifts. There will also be a new summer activities area with challenge courses and a zipline.

A-Basin has not said when construction on the expansion will start.

"The decision will enhance both the winter and summer recreation opportunities at A-Basin," Scott Fitzwilliams, Forest Supervisor said in a statement. "Lift replacements and grading will improve the quality of experience for skiers and snowboarders. Additionally, the summer aerial activity will reach a wide audience and provide experiences for an increasingly diverse recreating public."
