After Nightclub Shooting, Neighbors Say 'I've Had Enough'

By Andrea Flores

DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver are still searching for the suspect they say is responsible for a robbery-turned-shooting, that led them on a chase early Thursday morning.

Sandra Sotelo lives across the street from Stone Nightclub and calls the overnight robbery and shooting the final straw.

"I've just had enough," said Sotelo. "I'm planning on getting another place."

Denver police say someone robbed two men at gunpoint in the club's parking lot just before 2 a.m. Thursday.

The suspect shot one of the men before taking off in a red Chevy Camaro.

"I was asleep in my bedroom when all of a sudden I heard a gunshot," said nearby resident Larry Vialpando. "I didn't bother to get up because there's always trouble at that [club] and I don't want to get shot either."

The shooter led police on a wild chase across county line into Castle Rock.

Dangerous speeds forced police to call off the chase.

Officers later found the Camaro at a Centennial apartment complex. The suspect was nowhere in sight.

West Denver residents say dangerous activity near the club is common.

"There's probably a police car or an ambulance about once a week," said Vialpando.

Back in March, a man was found dead outside the nightclub, prompting a homicide investigation.

Vialpando moved to the neighborhood six months ago and says he's already looking for a way out of his lease.

"It's not worth it," Vialpando said.

Police say the shooting victim is expected to survive. So far, the department has not released a suspect description.
