Campaign Countdown: Final Push To The Polls

By Melissa Garcia

DENVER, Colo. (CBS4) - Campaign workers are making a big final push to get voters to cast their votes before Election Day.

While it's too late for voters to mail in their ballots, they can still turn them in at ballot drop-off boxes, or vote in person on Election Day this upcoming Tuesday.

Volunteers with both major parties were hard at work Sunday to get people to the polls.

Anne Farrell was coordinating volunteer efforts at Denver's Democratic Party operations center, where volunteers were dropping in to answer the phones, make calls, and send out text messages to residents who had yet to cast their votes.

"The polls are getting a little tighter, and it's making me nervous," said Gina Fatta, a campaign volunteer and supporter of Hillary Clinton. "So I just want to do everything I can to make sure Hillary wins."

Democratic Party volunteers were setting up ballot pick-ups, answering voter questions, and making appointments to give people rides to the polling places on Election Day.

"Your vote counts," said Farrell. "Get your one vote in."

Volunteers at Donald Trump's Denver headquarters were also making a big final push to the poll.

"This is an important election, and there's a lot at stake," said Coy Ebell, Veterans Co-Chair for Trump.

"Whether it be a fringe Democrat, independent, or a hard-core Republican -- if they haven't turned their ballot in, and they said they were leaning (towards) Donald Trump, we are going knocking on their doors, we're giving them phone calls, we're making sure to remind them that they need to turn in their ballot," said Steve Barlock, Co-Chair of Trump's Denver campaign.

Barlock said the campaign's final stretch was especially focused on Colorado's 70,000 unregistered veterans.

"I fought for this country because I believed in it," said one Operation Enduring Freedom veteran and Trump supporter who stopped into the Denver Trump headquarters to pick up campaign signs.

He had a message encouraging fellow veterans to vote.

"You fought for this right," the veteran said. "Why would you let somebody like Hillary take it away?"

Campaign workers said that citizens can still register to vote up until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Volunteers at the Democratic Party of Denver were available to answer voter questions at (303) 830-8242.

Volunteers at Denver's Trump Campaign headquarters said voters could stop by their office on 18th Avenue and Clarkson Street, or call (720) 939-0099.

For residents of Denver, there are dozens of 24-hour ballot drop off boxes at various locations around the city.
