Man Who Fell To Death At Stadium Leaves Behind 5 Children

DENVER (CBS4)- The man who fell to his death at Mile High Stadium after Monday night's Denver Broncos-Houston Texans game left behind five children.

Police say Jason Coy, 36, was sitting on a railing before he fell. They said emergency crews and witnesses immediately began to try to help the man.

"The paramedics came and they were kind of hush about it and I know the police blocked it off," said Mile High Stadium employee Michael Martinez.

Witnesses said he appeared to lose his balance and fell 60 feet in an enclosed stairwell as fans were leaving the stadium.

"Witnesses and first responders got there really quickly and were able to render aid to this individual. He was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased," said Denver Police Department spokesman Doug Schepman.

Denver's coroner said the cause of death for Coy was blunt force injuries.

Police continue to investigate the deadly fall but no foul play is believed to be involved.

This is the second death at Mile High Stadium in a little over a year. Last September, Francisco Morales fell to his death while trying to retrieve a hat that had fallen. Police say Morales was intoxicated at the time.

The Denver Broncos released this statement on Tuesday afternoon: "The Denver Broncos are extremely saddened to learn that Jason Coy, the fan who fell over a stairwell railing at Monday night's game, has passed away. Along with Stadium Management Company, we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and friends.

"Providing a safe, enjoyable environment for guests at Sports Authority Field at Mile High is the top priority for the Broncos and SMC. We're reviewing this tragic incident and will continue to maintain all necessary safety measures for our fans."

Police continue to investigate other factors that may be included in the most recent deadly fall.

"It's unclear to us right now whether there were drugs or alcohol involved. That would be part of the medical examiner's investigation into this matter," said Schepman.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Jason Coy's family to help with financial uncertainty. According to the page, Coy left behind his wife and five children.
