Elections Employees Undergo Active Shooter Training

DENVER (CBS4) - The people running Denver's voting sites are learning how to defend themselves against an active shooter.

Amber McReynolds, the director of Denver's elections, said the training was put in place a year-and-a-half ago, and it's not a result of this contentious election season.

Field judges have the most public interaction, so they are required to watch a video that simulates a workplace shooting and learn how to protect themselves.

"Some were immediately taken back by the video and some of the graphic images but I think it's important to at least present that in a training environment so that hopefully the shock -- in the event that somebody is put in that type of position -- isn't as great," McReynolds said.

Denver police are monitoring all 26 voting centers in the city this year, as they have in years past.
