Denver Wants To Know What You Think About Growth

DENVER (CBS4)- The City of Denver is planning for the future and city leaders want to hear from the people who live here now. The city has planned a series of community meetings to get input on everything from traffic to parks.

The first meeting took place on Tuesday morning where there was a series of interactive activities for those who attended.

Brad Buchanan, the Executive Director for Denver Community Planning and Development said the meetings are a holistic approach, a way to weave a number of community issues together and have the public decide on what changes need to happen as the city continues to grow.

"This is about asking the citizens of Denver, 'What do you love about Denver? What are the challenges you see? How would you like to see things change? What would you like to see different about the growth in the next 20 years?' We're on a listening tour for our city," said Buchanan.

The meetings are open to any community member who has an idea of what the city should look like as it continues to grow.

There are four key areas of focus for the city's evolution that include land use, mobility, parks and recreational resources.

There are various workshops at that meeting that include using colored stickers to determine which areas on a map that need improvement structurally, areas that don't feel safe to walk in and areas where great landmarks are located.

Tuesday's meeting was the first of five public meetings. City planners will take all the information gathered, decide what ideas are feasible and create more focused community planning sessions.
