Gang Leader Gets Life In Prison For Beating Man To Death

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A Greeley gang leader accused of beating and stabbing a man to death has been sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus 98 years.

Prosecutors said Monday that 35-year-old John Anthony Silva was sentenced on multiple charges, including first-degree murder.

Silva, who has an extensive criminal record, is accused along with other gang members of bludgeoning Gumercindo Munoz-Vizcaino to death with a medieval weapon known as a flail in August 2013. Investigators say they also repeatedly stabbed him, which caused him to bleed out.

Silva was on parole at the time of the attack.

Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke says, "The time is long past due that he be put behind bars for the rest of his life."
