Woman Hit By Carjacker Believes Suspect Was Driving Under The Influence

NORTHGLENN, Colo. (CBS4) - Northglenn police are searching for a carjacking suspect who crashed into car before stealing another Wednesday afternoon.

Lorene Kalb's shopping trip was cut short when a carjacking suspect crashed into her Wednesday.

"I was shopping to get a birthday present, and I guess I was interrupted," Kalb said.

It started around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when Northglenn police say a man tried to steal a vehicle from a Best Buy parking lot near 104th Avenue and Bannock Street.

Police say the suspect attempted to stab an onlooker who called police and tried to stop him before taking off across the street to the Northglenn Marketplace.

At the Marketplace the suspect carjacked the driver of a van at knifepoint and headed west on 104th.

Kalb was driving near 104th and Melody Street when the suspect barreled by and hit her.

"I have a bleeding, and black and blue, arm," said Kalb. "I hit my head. I was a little dizzy afterwards and shook up."

After crashing into Kalb, police say the suspect dumped the stolen van and fled to a nearby McDonald's parking lot where he stole a white 2015 Dodge truck and drove off.

The license plate of that truck vehicle has been identified as QWM-516.

"I just have a feeling he was either inebriated or was on drugs to be driving so fast," Kalb said.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, around 6 feet tall, about 150 pounds, with a dark-colored Mohawk. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie.

While Kalb says she's bruised and banged up, she says her biggest concern is shopping for her daughter's birthday.

"I don't know what I'm going to do about getting her a birthday present," Kalb said.
