Justice Sotomayor Declines To Talk Politics In Denver Visit

DENVER (AP) - Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor declined to talk about politics during a visit to a Denver university.

She instead on Thursday shared with students and faculty details of her life and rise to the nation's highest court.

The appearance at Metropolitan State University of Denver was one of several stops Sotomayor planned to make during her two-day visit to Colorado.

She took students' questions while flanked by federal agents but refused to talk about the upcoming election, the vacancy on the high court or pending cases.

Sotomayor, the first Hispanic and third woman to serve on the Supreme Court, will give a lecture at the University of Colorado Law School on Friday as part of its program to bring current and former justices to the Boulder campus.

President Barack Obama nominated the Bronx native to the Supreme Court in 2009.
