Pot Grow House Invasion Ends In Deadly Shooting

By Jennifer Brice

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Several police sources told CBS4 that deputies are investigating a shooting death as a result of a home invasion at a marijuana grow house.

The crime scene spans about two blocks in unincorporated Adams County. Evidence markers line the homicide investigation off 76th Avenue from Raritan to Quivas. Body Found Quivas and 76th MAP

Hank McDonald lives on the corner. He said police officers swarmed this area around 7 a.m. Thursday and have been gathering evidence all day.

"They picked up a lot of information and bagged it all up," he says. "Then the body was over kind of in the window well in this end."

One neighbor, a woman who didn't want to be identified, could see the body of the man lying on the lawn of a home at the corner of Quivas and 76th.

"There is so much violence in the world as it is and it makes me concerned it could happen anytime, anywhere," said the woman.

Sources said the shooting is connected to a home invasion of a marijuana grow house in the area. Those sources said a person inside the grow house shot one of the suspects trying to break inside, attempting to steal pot plants.

His body was believed to be found on the lawn.

Deputies said they continued to search for a person of interest.

Adams County Sheriff Deputy Mike Kaiser said they are not releasing that person's name, "We're not sure if he's a suspect or his status, were just looking for someone that is involved."

The crime tape was lifted from the scene around noon Thursday. More crime scene tape remained with police guards surrounding a home off Raritan.

Deputies said the public is not in danger, but a woman who lives nearby said she still feels uneasy.

"I feel scared for my safety," said the woman.

The coroner has not released the identity of the man who was shot to death.
