Police Ask For Public's Help In JonBenét Ramsey Murder 20 Years Later

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Nearly 20 years after the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, police in Boulder continue to investigate her death and even ask for the public's help in clues to the homicide.

Ramsey, a child beauty queen, was reported missing after her family reported finding a ransom note inside the family's home in the 700 block of 15th Street in Boulder the day after Christmas 1996.

She was found beaten and strangled in the basement of the home that same day. An autopsy later revealed the cause of her death as strangulation.

Boulder Police Chief Greg Testa released a video expressing the department's commitment to the open case. Testa also detailed the progress of the investigation.

"We have not and will not give up. We remain focused on this investigation and finding justice for JonBenet," said Testa.

The Boulder Police Department still has two investigators on the case.

The unsolved murder case has not faded from public fascination that once put JonBenet's parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, under an "umbrella of suspicion." No charges were ever filed in the little girl's murder.

CBS will air a four-hour two-part docuseries, "The Case of: JonBenét Ramsey," later this month. Original investigators will team up with new experts to re-examine the evidence using today's technology and forensics. They will also rebuild the crime scene, conduct interviews and offer new theories.

"The Case of: JonBenét Ramsey" premieres Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. on CBS4. Part 2 airs Monday, September 19 from 8-10 p.m., then the 3rd part airs Sunday, September 25 from 7-9 p.m. Mountain time.

Dr. Phil will interview JonBenét's brother Burke on Sept. 12 and Sept. 13 and Sept. 19 from 4-5 p.m. on CBS4.
