Registering To Vote Is Just A Text Away

DENVER (CBS4) - In an effort to get more people voting, the Colorado Secretary of State's office is offering a new way to register to vote: send a text.

If you're eligible to vote in Colorado, just text "Colorado" or "CO" to "2Vote" (28683). The state will text back a link to the office's online voter registration and election information site.

Once there, fill in the information.

"It's one-stop shopping for all the elections information anyone would need," said Colorado Secretary of State of Wayne Williams in a written release. "In today's on-demand society, we're staying one step ahead addressing the needs of milliennials, Gen-Xers and anyone who wants information immediately."

In addition to registering to vote, the text program also offers a way to update addresses, change party affiliations, view sample ballots or check the status of a voted ballot.

The state got input from a number of groups to develop the program including Denver Elections, New Era Colorado, Colorado Common Cause and the Colorado Public Interest Research Group.
