Young Woman Killed After Getting Hit By Train

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - A woman was killed after getting hit by a train in Westminster Saturday afternoon.

According to police, officers responded to the incident that occurred in the 10500 Block of Wadsworth Boulevard just after 1:30 p.m.

"An adult female was walking northbound in very close proximity to the railroad tracks at this location. The operator of the Burlington Northern Railroad train saw the female and began to apply the brakes and sound the train's horn. The female continued to walk next to the tracks as the train approached and was struck by the train," police said in a prepared statement.

The woman, whose name hasn't been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Preliminary investigation shows the female may have been wearing headphones," police said.

Investigators are working with Burlington Northern Railroad in the investigation.
