Service Disruptions On A Line Resolved After Damage To Power Line

DENVER (CBS4)- There were more service disruptions on RTD's A Line Thursday after hundreds of passengers were subject to hours-long delays on Wednesday.

"Somebody directed us to go onto a bus to take us to a train," said Susan Nathan who was visiting from California.

Bus shuttles transported passengers on the A Line at 61st and Pena to Denver International Airport due to a damaged power wire. Passengers endured delays of about 30 minutes while the damaged train was removed from the tracks.

"This is too many disruptions of service since the last month," said Denver metro area resident Mike Ogborn.

Trains were running as scheduled between Union Station and 61st and Pena.

RTD said the delays on Thursday were connected to the power disruption on Wednesday which delayed some passengers for hours. The delays on Wednesday were widespread because the train's pantograph, the arm that extends from the top of the train to the overhead power wire, snagged on one of the guide wires and was damaged.

That train was stranded without power and had to be pulled back to the maintenance facility by another train. That resulted in the loss of the westbound track from 61st and Pena to DIA.

"A Line has been nothing but a nightmare since it started. It has never been on time. We, at work, are actually surprised when the A Line is on time," said passenger Christina Garcia who takes the A Line five days a week. "It's been ridiculous and awful since the beginning."

"I'm trying to get to work and I am going to be late because of the malfunction of the train," said Denver resident Rebecca Nelson.

On Thursday evening the train issues were resolved and the train was running on schedule again.
