Students Help Break Ground On New School In Commerce City

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - Commerce City broke ground on its newest elementary school on Tuesday.

Students suited up in reflective vests and construction helmets as they dug into the dirt for Elementary School No. 12, which will be built on Landmark Drive.

Officials say the new $22 million school is needed to help overcrowding.

"They're over-capacity. They're pushing around 900 students. It's really built for about 750. So we're going to relieve the overcrowding," District 27J Superintendent Chris Fiedler said.
