Man Accused Of Shooting, Killing Doctor Appears In Court
ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - The man accused of shooting his wife and two neighbors, one of whom was killed, faced a judge Friday morning in Arapahoe County.
Kevin Lyons, 46, was deemed competent to stand trial, despite his outbursts in court and vocal opposition to his public defenders. He appeared for a preliminary hearing, where a judge will decide if there is enough evidence to proceed to a trial.
Lyons is facing 12 felony counts, including one count of first degree murder after deliberation. He is accused of shooting and killing a beloved doctor in his Centennial neighborhood, Kenneth Atkinson, as well as shooting and wounding two women, one of them his wife.
It happened April 4 in Lyons' front yard. Atkinson ran out of his home to stop Lyons from shooting his wife, and the second woman was also shot while trying to help.
Many of the victims' family and friends have been present for the court proceedings.
Lyons has been held without bond at the Arapahoe County Jail since the shootings.
