By Melissa Garcia

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Police have doubled the reward for information leading to the arrest of an Aurora man's killer.

Alexander Johnson, 21, was shot and killed outside of an Aurora apartment complex in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 21. The complex is known as the Viridian Apartments near Havana Street and Mississippi Avenue.

Police said that Johnson was sitting in his car outside of the complex when he was shot in the chest. Since the murder, investigators have followed up on several leads, but Johnson's killer remains on the run.

Police are now offering an extra incentive for information on this murder.

In addition to the $2,000 offered by Crime Stoppers, the Aurora Police Reward Fund has also pitched in another $2,000 for anyone who can help police make an arrest. That brings the total reward amount up to $4,000.

Information can be reported anonymously to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.

Tipsters can also contact Agent Mike Prince of the Major Crimes/Homicide Unit by calling (303) 739-6127.

It's unknown what Johnson was doing at the complex when he was shot to death. Nor do investigators know why Johnson was killed. Police believe that Johnson knew his killers, and that someone knows something.

No one, however, has come forward, leaving many unanswered questions for the family who lost a loved one and for the detectives struggling to solve the case.

"They have a lot of sleepless nights, when they kind of hit these road blocks," said Crystal McCoy, Public Information Officer for the Aurora Police Department. "And knowing that there's somebody out there who can help them come forward and bring justice to the family."
