Search Ends For Woman With Dementia Missing In Uncompahgre

MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) — Authorities have called off the search for a missing 82-year-old woman with dementia in the Uncompahgre National Forest.

Between 40 and 60 people searched for Mary Finnegan each day since her car was found on a rough road in the forest near the border of Mesa and Montrose counties on Sunday. They didn't have many clues to go on because rain had washed away any footprints. Heavy brush made it difficult to both move around and to see the ground.

Mesa County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Megan Terlecky said the search was suspended Thursday evening but it will resume if there are new leads about her whereabouts.

Finnegan was last seen on July 15 in Montrose. Her purse and identification were found inside her car and there's nothing to indicate foul play.
