Missing Woman Told Police She Was 'Scared For My Life'

By Jennifer Brice

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4)- New details have emerged in the disappearance of a woman who recently moved to Littleton from southern California. CBS4 has learned Charlene Voight was scared for her life several years ago. She disappeared earlier this month.

The pictures on Voight's Facebook page show her and boyfriend Jeff Beier having a good time but California court documents paint a different picture.

A longtime friend to the couple, who wants to be anonymous, says the relationship was strained but improving, "Significantly improved in the last year and half," he says. "As opposed to four to five years ago."

CBS4 was able to find court documents dating back to 2007 showing Beier involved with four cases of abuse with different women, restraining orders and plea deals that involved jail time.

In Voight's restraining order from 2012 she claims to be "scared for my life" and "Jeff is stalking me, threatening me."

The document also has pictures she gave to police with bruises on her face and lower body. She claimed the bruises were from an unreported incident where he "slapped, choked and dragged."

Beier's ex-wife says in a 2007 court document that she separated from him "because he physically abuses me and our children." She says while pregnant she was "punched in the face and (he) broke my nose."

As police continue to investigate Charlene's disappearance, Beier was arrested for an unrelated sex assault that police say they discovered.

Andy Palmer lives in the complex where Beier and Voight recently moved in Littleton. He says he saw detectives remove many items from their apartment, including a washer and dryer.

"A headboard, night stand, bits and pieces of furniture, lots of brown paper bags, carpet, flooring," says Palmer.

Voight's car was also discovered on a plot of land near the apartments. The current registered land owner told CBS4 that he recently sold that land to Beier in late June.

Friends say they just want Voigt to come home and that her disappearance is sad.

"It could be your sister," says the couple's friend who wanted to remain anonymous. "All of a sudden they're not there and you don't have any answers."

Beier has not been named a suspect in Voight's disappearance. He will be back in court later this summer for the unrelated sex assault case.
