Family Escapes After Car Fire Spreads To House

DENVER (CBS4) - A family in Denver's Green Valley Ranch neighborhood is safe after an early morning fire damaged their home.

Firefighters received a call just before 3 a.m. about a car fire that had extended into a house on Ceylon Street.

Crews were able to douse the flames quickly, and determined the car was leaking fuel which lit up the engine.

The couple said their 2013 blue Hyundai Elantra was driven Monday evening, and sat for awhile before catching fire.

They were able to make it out of the home in time, grabbing their two small children and pets, thanks to smoke detectors and neighbors who called the fire department.

Arson investigators determined there were no signs that the fire was intentionally set.

The front of the house is melted, but no damage was done inside. Smoke lingered in the area for a while and the family looked for temporary housing.
