Skater Bashes Exotic Car's Windshield

By Stan Bush

DENVER (CBS4) - More than 2.5 million people have watched a video of a skateboarder bashing the windshield of an exotic sports car on Sunday in Denver's Lower Highlands neighborhood.

And many of the viewers say the skater was in the right.

The video posted to YouTube shows the driver of an orange McLaren 570S roll through a stop sign and into the crosswalk.

Witnesses say the car knocked a skateboarder to the ground and then the driver honked at him.

Moments later, there is a loud crack heard in the video and the skater is seen running away and up a hill with the passenger from the car chasing him. It quickly becomes apparent the skater took his board and broke through the windshield.

A separate security video that captured the incident also shows the skateboarder falling over after being struck by the car.

Denver police say they've seen the YouTube video, but say nothing illegal happened because neither party reported the incident.

The car was a rental from Mile High Drives in Wheat Ridge. The owner would not confirm if he was the driver or if the car was out on rental, but he did tell CBS4 that he is considering a lawsuit.

"I can see why (the skater) was so angry," said Dave Kaczmarek, the co-owner of the nearby LoHi Athletic Club.

Kaczmarek told CBS4 he frequently sees near-misses at the intersection where the incident happened. He said more safety measures need to be put in place.

"(It seems) the stop signs are just like a suggestion to stop. People really blow the stop signs all the time," he said.
