Elway On Miller Deal: 'I'm Proud Of How We Handled This'
DENVER (CBS4) - Broncos General Manager John Elway says the team has high expectations for linebacker Von Miller now that the two sides have worked out a long-term deal.
"Going forward, we expect great things from Von not only on the field but with the responsibility he has as a leader on the team," Elway said in the team's official press release announcing Friday's deal.
Elway admitted the contract negotiations took a long time, but he said he is satisfied with how it all unfolded.
"I'm proud of how we've handled this situation and give credit to everyone on our staff who helped get this done," Elway said.
Miller's six-year deal is worth a reported $114 million.
In his official comments on the signing, Miller said thanks to Elway, as well as team owner Pat Bowlen, team president Joe Ellis and Coach Gary Kubiak. It was a notably different tone than the one he conveyed when talks temporarily broke down early last month.
"This is something I really wanted -- to stay with the Denver Broncos," Miller said.
Miller, who skipped out on all of the Broncos offseason practices, said he's excited to "get back to work."
The Broncos start training camp practices on July 28.
