Experts: Keep Your Distance From Wildlife
DURANGO, Colo. (CBS4)- State wildlife officers are reminding people visiting Colorado to keep a safe distance from wild animals after a fawn was separated from its mother and had to be euthanized.
A group of people found a fawn in the La Plata Mountains west of Durango in Southwestern Colorado. They took the baby doe and brought it to the humane society but it was too late.
"They were 30 miles from Durango and they brought the fawn to Durango and by that time we didn't have the name of the people, they didn't have a location where the animal was found... so we really couldn't take it back," said Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Joe Lewandowski.
Those who are worried about an animal's well being are asked to call the experts and keep a safe distance from the animal.
The people who picked up the fawn won't face any charges because there aren't any laws against the action, although it is widely discouraged.
