Preparations Underway For Independence Eve

By Andrea Flores

DENVER (CBS4)- It takes a village to get a show like Independence Eve off the ground, but before crowds can enjoy the free concert and fireworks show, crews behind the scenes work all year long the make the event come to life.

Western Enterprises is setting up and supplying the fireworks for the eight minute fireworks show. The concert stage and lighting professionals also worked throughout the day on Saturday to make sure the Sunday night event goes as smoothly as possible.

Civic Center Conservancy is producing the event, presented by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. Event organizers say it's take an entire year to pull off the one-night event.

"It's everything from recruiting great sponsors like Anadarko, to working with the fireworks company, to working with the musicians to figure out what music goes with the fireworks, and also selecting the bands to do the first concert as well," said Civic Center Conservancy Events Director, Eric Lazzari.

It's the 7th Annual Independence Eve and organizers say the 4th of July fun keeps the community coming back for more.

"We started it off as a way for people to come to the park more often, one of the many things we do, but the community has fallen in love with it," Lazzari said.

But more than pulling off a big finale, Civic Center Conservancy hopes families remember the big picture.

"Ultimately, we want to change people's perception of what they think of Civic Center," said Lazzari.
